වේයන්ගොඩ මහජන පුස්තකාලයීය මාර්ගගත සුචිය වෙත සාදරයෙන් පිළිගනිමු
සියනෑ පුරවරයේ අත්තනගල්ල, ඓතිහාසික ලෙස මෙරට සුප්‍රකට පුරවරයකි. අත්තනගල්ල, වාරණ, මාලිගාතැන්න, පිළිකුත්තුව හා දඩගමුව රාජමහා විහාරස්ථාන මෙරට සුප්‍රකට පුරා විද්‍යාත්මක හා සංචාරක ආකර්ෂණය දිනාගත් ස්මාරකයන්ය. මෙරට කුඩාම හා ඉතා පහසුවෙන් පිවිසිය හැකි හොරගොල්ල ජාතික උද්‍යානය පිහිටා ඇත්තේ ද මෙම ප්‍රදේශයේය.
වේයන්ගොඩ යනු සියනෑ පුරවරයේ අත්තනගල්ල ප්‍රාදේශීය සහා බල සීමාවේ වන නාගරික බල ප්‍රදේශයකි. කොළඹ නුවර මහා මාර්ගයේ සිට කටුනායක හා මීගමුව දක්වා දිවෙන මාර්ගයේ, නිට්ටඹුවේ සිට කිලෝමීටර් හතරක පමණ දුරින් හා කොළඹ සිට කිලෝමීටර් 38 ක දුරින් වේයන්ගොඩ පිහිටා ඇත. නගරය ප්‍රකට වන්නේ මෙරට පළමුව ඉදිකල දුම්රිය ස්ථාන පහ අතුරින් එකක් වේයන්ගොඩ ඉදිවීම නිසාවෙනි. එය ජනතාවට විවෘත වුයේ 1864 දෙසැම්බර් 27 වන දින ඇරඹුණු මෙරට පළමු දුම්රිය ගමන් සමගිනි.
වේයන්ගොඩ නගර වාසී ජනතාවගේ තොරතුරු අවශ්‍යතා පරීපූර්ණ කරලීම උදෙසා 1966 පෙබරවාරි 08 වන දින එවකට වේයන්ගොඩ ගම් සභාව මගින් මෙම මහජන පුස්තකාලය ආරමිභ කරන ලදී. ආරම්භයේදී බණ්ඩාරණායක පුස්තකාලය ලෙස හැදින්වූ මෙය වර්තමානයේ දී හදුන්වන්නේ වේයන්ගොඩ මහජන පුස්තකාලය නමිනි. අද වන විට පුස්තකාලය අත්තනගල්ල ප්‍රාදේශීය සභාවේ වේයන්ගොඩ උප කාර්යාලයට අනුබද්ධීතව ස්ථාපිත කර ඇති අතර මෙම නව නිවහනට පිවිසියේ 1980 ජුනි 22 වන දිනයි. වේයන්ගොඩ නගර මධ්‍යයේ සිරිවර්ධන මාවතෙහි දුම්රිය ස්ථානයට, බස් නැවතුමට, ජනාධිපති විද්‍යාලයට පහසුවෙන් ලගා විය හැකි අයුරින් පුස්තකාලය පිහිටා ඇත.
බැහැර දෙන පුස්තකාලය, විමර්ශන පුස්තකාලය, ළමා පුස්තකාලය අධ්‍යන ශාලාව, වාර සඟරා හා පුවත්පත් අංශය, ජායා පිටපත් හා අන්තර්ජාල පහසුකම් සේවාවන් පුස්තකාලයේ පාඨක සේවාවන් ලෙස ස්ථාපිතව ඇත. පුස්තකාල එකතුව පොත් 16,000 කට අධික ප්‍රමාණයෙන් හා පුවත්පත්, ඇතුළු වෙනත් පුස්තකාල සම්පත් වලින් සමන්විත වේ. වර්තමානය වන විට 8500 කට අධික පාඨකයන් ප්‍රමාණයකට පරිපුර්ණ පුස්තකාල සේවාවන් සපයනු ලබයි. දෛනිකව පාඨකයන් 150 කට අධික ප්‍රමාණයක් පුස්තකාලය පරිහරණය කරනු ලබයි.
වේයන්ගොඩ මහජන පුස්තකාල සේවාවන් දිස්ත්‍රික් මට්ටමින් හා ජාතික මට්ටමේ ඇගයීම් වලට පාත්‍ර වී තිබේ. 2016 වසරේදී ගම්පහ දිස්ත්‍රික් කාර්ය සාධන තරඟාවලියේ දෙවන ස්ථානය හා ජාතික ඵලදායිතා 20I8 තරඟාවලියේ කුසලතා සම්මානයෙන් පිදුම් ලබා ඇත.
2021 වර්ෂයේ, ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්ෂණ නියෝජිතායතනය (ICTA) හා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජාතික පුස්තකාල හා ප්‍රලේඛන සේවා මණ්ඩලය හා එක්ව “ඩිජිටල් පුස්තකාල ව්‍යාපෘතිය” හරහා යාවත්කාලීන සංස්කරණ මුහුණුවරකින් යුත් පූර්ණ පුස්තකාල ස්වයංක්‍රීය පද්ධතියක් ද නවීන අංගෝපාංගයන් හා සේවාවන්ගෙන් ද සපිරි නව තාක්ෂණික අත්දැකිමක් සඳහා දොරටු විවර කර ඇත.
Attanagalla is the Ancient city of the “Siyana Koralaya” in Gampaha district. Attanagalla, Vaarana,Pilikutthuwa and Dadagamuwa are Ancient temples and famous archeological and tourists sites of thearea. The Horagolla smallest’s national park is located in Attanagalla.
Veyangoda is an urban area in Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha area. It is located Nittambuwa to Negambo road 4 km away from Nittambuwa and 40 km away from Colombo.Veyangoda railway station was one of the first five railway stations in Sri Lanka.Veyangoda town was famous for this station. Station was open to the public on 27th December 1864 with the first rail run in the country.
Veyangoda public library is located in the center of the town on “Siriwardana Mawatha”. It is nearby Precedent College, main Bus halt and Railway station. The library was established under the “Veyangoda Gam Sabawa” on 08th February 1966 to fill the full information needs of the population of veyangoda . In the beginning, the library was named “Bandaranayaka Library”. At present library is known as “Veyangoda Public Library”. This is function under the veyangoda sub-office of Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabawa. Library shifted to this building on 22nd June 1980.

Lending Library, Reference Library, Children Library, Study Hall, Periodical Section, Newspaper Section, Photocopy and Internet services.There are more than 15,000 library materials with books, Periodicals, News Papers, and other materials.Library serves its services to more than 8500 readers and more than150 readers per day.
Library awarded several times on a national and district scale. 1st runner-up on Performance Competition in Gampaha district. Merit Certificate for national productivity competition in 2018.
In 2021, The Digital Libraries Project was implemented at this public library by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with National Library and Documentation Services Board by providing an advanced and updated library automation system and introduced modern infrastructure which is in demand to improve the quality and efficiency of the library system in the country. Presently the library is fully equipped with modern electronic devices to provide digital library services to the public. Users can easily search, find, locate and hold required books through this Online Public Access Catalogue.
